thing – the start of BBQ season. Now all you really need to have a great barbecue is good weather, good people and good food. That being said, here are some of Kitchen Charm’s favourite food and drink ideas to make your next barbecue the best one yet! Meat on the bbq


Good Protein

Whatever you choose to throw on the grill for the day, whether it be hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, ribs or any vegetarian options, just make sure to choose good quality products! Good Sides

Any BBQ is not complete with a few good side dishes! Think salads (pasta salad, potato salad, or the healthy kind – lettuce salad), rice dishes, french fries, etc. Whatever your guests’ hearts desire!

Good Snacks

Snacks are probably the easiest and most fun part of the BBQ to prepare! Chips of any variety, nachos and guacamole are just some of our favourites! A bag of Nacho chips with a bowl of  salsa can go A LONG way for a group of your guests!

Good Drinks

After all that strenuous eating, there needs to be something cold and refreshing (and non-alcoholic!) to wash down all the delicious food! Try making some homemade lemonade and adding fresh raspberries for a cool twist, or brew some homemade black iced tea with lemon! Even adding mint leaves to a large jug of water can be a ultra sophisticated.

ALTON BROWN’S GUACAMOLE

Alton Brown's guacamole

20 mins to make, 1 hour inactive • Serves 1 batch

Ingredients

3 Haas avocados, halved, seeded and peeled
1 lime, juiced
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 medium onion, diced
1/2 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 clove garlic, minced

Directions
 
In a large bowl place the scooped avocado pulp and lime juice, toss to coat. Drain, and reserve the lime juice, after all of the avocados have been coated. Using a potato masher add the salt, cumin, and cayenne and mash. Then, fold in the onions, jalapeno, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic. Add 1 tablespoon of the reserved lime juice. Let sit at room temperature for 1 hour and then serve.
